The Microbioflottazione plant can be applied to a broad spectrum of civil and industrial effluents due to its peculiarities of forced oxidation. It can be advantageously adapted to wastewater with very high polluting loads and to wastewater characterized by a very low biodegradability. The particular chemical-physical working conditions of the system, indeed, characterized by an high oxygen transfer capacity, by a physical cracking of the pollutant macromolecules and by a wastewater detoxification, promote the growth of an high efficient specific biomass.
In the following scheme some typical installations (new plant, upgrade existing facilities, advanced plant) are represented.
Bioflottazione and Microbioflottazione utilization: flow-sheets
In all cases, in addition, of course, to ensure the limits required for the discharge, by adding a final step of third phase, it is possible recovering from 20% to 80% (depending on the salt content) of the water in production.
What above must be taken as a general reference, in fact, the plant are ad-hoc designed for each specific wastewater, thus offering a broader range of solutions.
Each plant is designed in order to maximize the treatment efficiency and the operating costs according to the wastewater characteristics and the current law specifications.
Wastewater from textile industries
The Bioflottazione process is particularly indicated for the treatment_of_waste_water, like those of textile and dyeing industries, which contain sensitive amount of surfactants and suspended solids, as these components become part of the process itself.
Wastewater from special production and/or heavily polluted
The peculiarities of the Microbioflottazione plant makes it particularly adapt to the treatment of_wastewater deriving from special industrial production processes, as for example the washing of industrial clothes, which are notorious refractory to a conventional biological treatment. Furthermore, it can be inserted in the process of industrial waste recycle (plastic, metal, exhausted oil, paint, etc.) and is suitable for the treatment of landfill leachet greatly reducing its organic and nitrogen load so that a final physical, chemical-physical or biological treatment becomes sustainable.
Wastewater from agro-food and dairy industries
The Microbioflottazione process adapts itself at the best to the treatment_of_this_wastewater_type, allowing high removal efficiency of the organic load and of nitrogen and phosphorous.
Wastewater from other origins
Several experiments of Bioflottazione and Microbioflottazione on a semi-industrial scale gave promising results in wastewater_treatment of tannery and pharmaceutical industry. The next scheduled pilot plant trials will be on wastewater notoriously refractory to all sorts of biological treatment, such as coke plants and those from oil mills (so-called "vegetable water"). The coke waste water contains, in fact, phenols and cyanide, substances which are easily removed with Microbioflottazione. Referring to vegetation wastewater, representing 50% of the weight of olives assigned to the squeezing, it is well known that their disposal is still nowadays, a practically unsolved problem.
They are usually spreaded on the fields, with serious damage to soil and crops. The main difficulties arise by the content of toxic phenols, being this an indication for the use of the Microbioflottazione.
